Stirling Moss honoured by the FIA
December 31st, 1969
Legendary British F1 racer Stirling Moss has been awarded the FIA Gold Medal on Friday for his contribution to motorsport. Moss, regarded by many as “the greatest driver to have never won a World Championship” finished his F1 career in 1962 but has remained active in promoting motorsport and still remains one of the most recognizable faces in the industry. He was also known for being a very versatile racer, having achieved success in F1 cars, sports cars, and saloons.
FIA president Max Mosley said at the ceremony: “There are few drivers in the history of motorsport who have been as deserving of this award as Sir Stirling. It is not just his remarkable success across all categories of racing that stands him apart but also his continuing contribution to the promotion of motorsport.”
