GPS navigation moving to heads-up-display
December 31st, 1969
Last month, Japanese automotive supplier Denso Corporation received a patent for an innovative GPS navigation system that projects the map onto the car’s windshield via a heads-up-display. Alpine Electronics also received a patent for the development of a similar system, which means we're likely to see the first working products on the market in the new future.
Denso developed and patented the three-dimensional mapping system that uses a series of senses around the car to detect when an appropriate direction should be displayed. It takes into account when the driver would require critical information and has to constantly monitor traffic conditions and safety issues.
