SSC gunning for world’s fastest production car
December 31st, 1969
American performance car manufacturer Shelby Super Cars, SSC, is prepping its Ultimate Aero TT to end the reign of the Bugatti Veyron as the world’s fastest car. Led by its founder and lead designer Jerod Shelby, SSC has announced today that it will commence initial testing on the 21st of this month at a closed off section of Nevada highway stretching 12 miles. SSC has partnered with MKM racing, which has been called upon to oversee safety and to provide independent verification with its laser traps that are accurate to 0.1mph.
To break the current record, which stands at 253mph, SSC will use its 2,750 lb Ultimate Aero TT. The supercar comes equipped with a twin-turbo 6.2L V8 pumping out 1183bhp and 1094ft-lbs of torque and has a drag coefficient of 0.357, which its makers claim will send it all the way to 273mph.
The Ultimate Aero TT isn’t just a stripped out shell with an engine and driver’s seat either. It comes with many comfort features including a full leather and suede interior, unique Recaro bolsters, 10 speaker premium audio system, sat-nav DVD with a reverse camera and finally, a hydraulic system that can raise it 4in to tackle steep driveways.

lol, agreed... although in a straight line with nearly 1200bhp, it should hit some serious speed... and i imagine that at 273mph youre probly not going to want to turn anyway...

Why people make so ignorants coments about american cars. They turn like any other exotic. Look at the Z06, GT times in Nordscheifel. The S7 puts more than 1g in the skidpad. The new Viper turns awesome also. I hope the SSC can make a new record but i still dont think it will since the hi CD of the car like the S7. Let's see what happens.......
