If you thought Tesla’s popular electric Roadster was amazing, wait until you see the specs of the upcoming ZAP-X electric crossover. US based ZAP Automotive has revealed a new rendering of its ZAP-X, an exciting vehicle that was co-developed with Lotus engineering that’s soon to be released. Utilizing a lightweight aluminium structure shared with Lotus’ APX concept, the ZAP-X will be powered by four in-wheel electric motors that have a combined output of 644hp. Designers claim the crossover will be capable of reaching 60mph from rest in 4.8 seconds, all the way to its top speed of 155mph.
New lithium battery technology provides a range of about 350 miles per charge equating to only 1 cent per mile in running costs. There’s also a rapid re-charge mode that takes only 10 minutes to top up. The versatile crossover will be able to seat up to seven passengers in a 5+2 configuration, who will be entertained by an on-board carputer with touch-screen controls and Windows XP. Wi-Fi, Blue-tooth, HD video, iPod connection, Fire wire and USB ports means the ZAP-X could double as a mobile office.
Other features that could make production include a keyless bio-metric entry and ignition system, photovoltaic glass with heating and cooling functions, as well as built in solar panels to generation extra power. Standard features include power windows and locks plus a GPS system. The ZAP-X is definitely one of the most exciting and advanced vehicles of the decade, we just hope ZAP can meet its bold claims.
