2008 HUMMER H2 to roll in at New York
December 31st, 1969
HUMMER has revealed details about its 2008 model H2 SUV ahead of the car’s official debut at next month’s New York Auto Show. Major changes include a revamped interior with more luxury and safety features as well as a more powerful engine coupled to a new six-speed auto. The new powertrain combination consists of a 6.2L all-aluminum small-block V8 engine, rated at 393hp (293 kW) and 415lb.-ft. of torque (574 Nm). The engine also features lightweight materials, including an aluminum cylinder block, which helps reduce the vehicle's overall mass. Drive is sent to the wheels via GM’s Hydra-Matic 6L80 six-speed automatic transmission, which includes a "tall" overdrive gear to improve performance and efficiency.
The interior features a completely redesigned instrument panel and new seats including a full third-row seat for two passengers as well as new door trim panels, new controls, climate control and rear-seat overhead DVD entertainment packs.
To differentiate the new model from pervious versions, designers added an enlarged lower grille to help cool the more powerful engine and the lower bumpers are painted silver. NVH levels have also been improved substantially thanks to tuned air intake and exhaust systems. Safety features include roof rail head curtain side air bags, electronic stability control system with rollover mitigation technology and new late start traction control system. A self-leveling rear air spring suspension system is available for extreme off-road and towing requirements.
