BMW Alpina B3 Bi-Turbo

If you can’t wait any longer for the new M3, BMW tuner Alpina has a turbocharged terror based on the 3-series sedan that may whet your appetite. Honing its skills in boosting cars since the launch of its first turbo model back in 1978, Alpina has applied its knowledge to the new 3-series sedan to create the all-new B3 Bi-Turbo. The highlight of the new vehicle is the 360hp (265kW) twin-turbo straight six, churning out peak power at 6,000rpm and maximum torque of 500Nm from 3,800 to 5,000rpm.

Alpina’s Engineers have been working on the BMW-sourced powerplant for over 12 months and decided on a few key changes to the powerful engine. These include the use of MAHLE pistons, which allow maximum boost of 1.1bar with a 9.4:1 compression ratio. The 0-100km/h dash is done in 4.9 seconds with the engine pulling all the way to a top speed of 285 km/h. Another key feature of the package is a set of quad exhaust pipes attached to new catalytic converters that enable the modded car to meet stringent Euro4 emissions standards.

Inside, Alpina has added a new steering wheel and instrument cluster with blue instruments and red pointers. Other additions to the car include light-weight 18in Alpina wheels shod with 225mm rubber. Only a few hundred examples are expected to be built with each model individually marked with an Alpina plaque identifying its unique production number.
