Updated: ‘Dukes of Hazzard’ replica reaches nearly $10 million on eBay
December 31st, 1969
Updated: The winning bidder who pledged $9,900,500 to buy the replica 1969 Dodge “General Lee” on eBay last Friday has apparently failed to pay up. The seller, John Schneider, who goes by the screen name ‘johnsebiz’, posted negative feedback on the buyer ‘fishbashr1’, leaving the comment "this is the guy that for fun, decided to bid on the General Lee. Thanks".
Original: A replica version of the General Lee, the 1969 Dodge Charger that starred in the “The Dukes of Hazzard” TV show, reached a whopping bid of $9,900,500 on eBay. The winning bidder has not transferred the cash as yet but if the sale goes through it’ll be a new eBay record (the current record stands at $4.9 million for a private jet). The car in question is a replica version that was never used in the show but includes the signatures of the cast under the hood.
It was sold by John Schneider, the man who played Bo Duke in the original series, who expected it to fetch only around $3 million. The car was used in the movie “Dukes Go To Hollywood” and was also raced in Nevada’s Silver State Classic Challenge. Schneider is now planning to use the proceeds from the sale to fund the sequel to his 2006 movie, “Collier & Co.”
The winning bidder, who goes by the screen name “Fishbashr1”, beat out 60 other hopefuls but has not answered any emails since the close of bidding, adding to growing speculation that it was likely a fake bid.
