Suzuki introduces its Euro-inspired Splash
December 31st, 1969
Suzuki’s has given us a preview of its new Splash minicar, a sporty little hatch with European styling that will expand the Japanese brand’s presence in Europe when it’s finally released in the first half of next year. Packed to brim with a bevy of standard features, the Splash will come with an extensive list of safety features for a small car including six airbags and an electronic stability program.
The Splash will be Suzuki’s fourth entirely new model in just three years after the launch of the new Swift, Grand Vitara and SX4. The latest addition should make an impact given its relatively roomy cabin (seating accommodates up to four adults) built off the same platform that underpins the sporty Swift.
Its worldwide debut is scheduled for September’s Frankfurt Motor Show with sales following next year. It will be available with two different petrol engines, a 1.0L three-cylinder with 48kW (65hp) on tap and a 1.2L four-banger developing 63kW (86hp). Customers preferring a diesel engine can choose a 1.3L common rail unit with an optional particulate filter and an output of 55kW (75hp). Emissions of all three engines with the 5-speed manual gearbox are between only 120g/km and 140g/km, ready for Europe’s stringent CO2 guidelines.
