VW unveils the Golf GTI Pirelli edition
December 31st, 1969
The Wörthersee 2007 tuner show was the site for the return of the Volkswagen Golf GTI Pirelli. First released in 1983 as a limited edition model, the original Pirelli featured specially designed alloy wheels with the “Pirelli P” on their outer edges and sold over 10,000 units in the first six months of sale. The latest version once again features high-performance Pirelli rubber wrapped around 18-inch Pirelli wheels finished in a titanium look.
The car’s interior has been upgraded with a partial-leather sports seat system that has an embedded tire tread pattern. Under the hood is the familiar TFSI motor, which now develops 230hp (169kW) and is capable of propelling the hot-hatch to 100km/h from rest in 6.8 seconds with a top speed of 245km/h. DSG versions will reach 100km/h in just 6.6 seconds and manage a fuel economy rating of 7.9L per 100km.
To control the power is the latest generation of P-Zero tires, measuring 225mm, and VW’s standard Golf GTI chassis and brake package. Unique interior appointments include heated seats, electrically adjustable lumbar supports in front, and all-leather center armrest in the rear. The car made its worldwide debut at this week’s Wörthersee Auto Show in Austria and is scheduled to enter production in September.

I was actually joking about the VW Golf and Polo W12 editions with a friend the other day. It was such a bizarre concept that when I first saw the images I thought they were 'chopped up by someone. Little did I know...
Let's hope there's a limited production model.
