Daimler launches the facelifted Super Eight

December 31st, 1969 Hot off the launch of the refreshed Jaguar XJ comes the near-identical Daimler version. Not to be confused with Germany’s Daimler-Benz, the Daimler Motor Company is a British car brand that’s currently under the ownership of Ford’s Premier Auto Group. Its latest model, the Super Eight, was released in July 2005 and runs a supercharged 400bhp 4.2L V8 engine with a six-speed automatic. This year’s update leaves most of the mechanicals unchanged. Instead, the car gets restyled bumpers both front and back, a new aluminum mesh grille and 19in wheels as standard with 20 inchers as an option. Like the Jaguar XJ saloon on which it’s based, the Daimler Super Eight also gets a lightweight aluminium body. Inside, there’s up to one meter of legroom for rear seat passengers, lamb’s wool carpets with an embroided swirling ‘D’ logo, plus rear-mounted DVD players with iPod and MP3 capability. Customers can opt from three different interior trim choices, including Champagne, Ivory or Charcoal for the leather and Burr Walnut veneer on the wooden inlays. Via: AutoTelegraaf
