Update: 2008 BMW 1-series coupe official details

December 31st, 1969 Following the reveal of the new 1-series Coupe in spy shots earlier today, BMW has just released an official press release with more details about the car. The flagship of the range is the BMW 135i with its 3.0L twin-turbocharged petrol powerplant. Offering 306hp and 400Nm of torque from its light alloy and magnesium straight-six engine, the 135i is capable of accelerating from zero to 62mph in 5.3 seconds before going on to an electronically-limited top speed of 155mph. Thanks to direct injection and Bi-VANOS valve timing technology, the 2,979cc engine posts a 30.7mpg figure on the combined cycle and a CO2 emissions figure of 220g/km. Brake-energy regeneration also features with BMW’s new Efficient Dynamics technology, aiding fuel economy. The 135i is joined by the 123d sporting the new 204hp twin-turbo diesel 2.0L motor. Peak torque is 400Nm from 2,000rpm, while the engine revs to in excess of 4,400rpm where peak power is attained. This performance equates to a zero to 62mph time of 7.0 seconds and a top speed of 148mph, while maintaining a consumption figure of 54.3mpg. The 123d also comes with Auto Start-Stop technology, Brake Energy Regeneration, third-generation common-rail fuel injection, a diesel particulate filter, active aerodynamics, Electric Power Steering and low rolling resistance tires. The entry level model is the new 120d, which packs a 2.0L turbodiesel with 177hp that proves to be the most economic of the lot with a consumption figure of 58.9mpg. All models come available with an M sport package as an option, which includes 17in alloys for two diesels and 18in wheels for the 135i. The pack also includes a unique bodykit, sports suspension, sports seats, a leather steering wheel and ‘M’ labeling. This is the specification for European markets, the US will likely receive more petrol models.

  1. This should be a hatch.
Other than that it is very promising.
    Good work BMW!

  2. not bad until i saw the rear.....

  3. Biturbo - there's already a 3-dr hatch.

  4. It's not bad looking except for the rear end being ugly like the current 3, 5 and 7 series. For someone who drives alone 9x% of the time it would be a blast and plenty of car. It will be interesting to watch it's progression.
