Honda reveals Civic Mugen RR sports sedan

Honda is currently prepping a new performance version of the Civic sedan that’s set for release in the Japan this September. Based on the already sporty Type R, the new Honda Civic Mugen RR was transformed after undergoing a power upgrade and weight reduction program in collaboration with the help of its Mugen racing division.
Power is up 15hp over the standard Type R, producing 240hp at 8,000rpm and 160lb-ft at 7,000 revs. The jump comes from modifications to the intake system and new cams as well as high-flow exhaust. Weight has been cut back with the replacement of some panels with carbon-fiber and aluminum, down 10kg once again over the standard Type R.
Other enhancements include Bridgestone Potenza tires designed specifically for the Mugen RR, a new sports suspension and uprated brakes. Inside, the car gets Recaro bucket seats with unique Mugen RR labeling. Only 300 cars will be produced, and all will be limited to Honda’s Milan Red finish.

Wow, 240hp....at 8,000 rpm?! 160ft. lbs. of torque at 7,000 rpm?! Now, that's some usable power....not. I'd hate to drive that car in the city.

Honda's have always required that you drive them like they're stolen. I don't think they plan to change that any time soon.

You'd get used to it. The bitch would be changing to another car and revving the hell out of it unintentionally.
Incidentally. This car develops almost as much power out of a 4 pot than the Jaguar XK (seen on another post in this site) does with 8 cynlinders. I'd love to know what the fuel economy on this Honda is like... Gotta take your hat off to Honda's engineers.

I agree with both points.
Love the engineers for making motors that can get great mileage and big power, but I do love my big V8 which wants to pull trees out at idle...
Someday they will merge these two things (I know, electric motors...) :)

What a weapon!
I’ve never like Honda as a motorcycle company. Since working on them, I think they are over engineered lumps of steel that either had no thought put into the assembly process, or too much thought. That isn’t to say they aren’t GOOD. They are. But unlike their cars, their motorcycles are not exciting. They offer nothing when comparing to rivals of similar class. Suffice to say, I’ve always been more excited about Honda cars, not bikes. And this thing excites me having a good look on its Mazda door handle already makes me shiver. But sad to say, I could never afford one. But being the new car market, I’m not going to pass up test driving one.
