Rebadged Subaru Tribeca to be sold as a Scion?
December 31st, 1969
Toyota may turn to Subaru for its newest addition to the Scion range, possibly rebadging a Subaru Tribeca to create a new SUV model to be sold alongside the Scion xB. Spy photos of a camouflaged prototype resembling a Tribeca SUV with a Scion grille has been published by Japan's New Model Magazine X, accompanied by a story that claims the new car will in fact be sold by Scion.
Toyota currently owns an 8.6% stake in Subaru's parent, Fuji Heavy Industries, and this is expected to grow because of a recent change to Japan’s antitrust laws that have paved the way for a full on takeover.
Also in the rumor mill is talk of a new Lexus dedicated hybrid model. Lexus’ Chief in the UK Steve Settle recently told Automotive News Europe that there is a hybrid-only Lexus in the pipeline for sale in Europe and Japan. Positioned above the IS, the new hybrid would be roomier than the entry-level sedan and also be the most affordable Lexus hybrid.

The Tribeca is too large for a Scion. Toyota should build a RAV4 sister for Lexus and Scion instead.
