Callaway C16 Speedster to debut at 2007 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance
December 31st, 1969
Corvette specialist Callaway is set to unveil its latest C16 Speedster flagship at next month’s Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, the third model in the C16 lineup joining the coupe and cabrio. The unique roadster features a 700hp supercharged 6.2L V8 engine, and a chopped roof with only a pair of small wind deflectors and extended headrests protruding from the smooth wedge shaped body.
The hand-built all-alloy powerplant develops an earth shattering 660lb-ft of torque, which should see the C16 Speedster reach 60mph from rest in just over three seconds with a top speed in excess of 200mph. To ensure all that power gets to the group, engineers have added an Eibach Multi-Pro coil-over suspension system adjustable to ten different settings.
Other high-end features include Dymag Carbon wheels with a forged magnesium spider-pattern. Measuring 19in up front and 20in at the rear, the unique wheels house six-piston callipers in the front and bite 355mm rotors. The new Speedster officially goes on sale in autumn and is priced at $305,000. One lucky buyer will get the car with build-plate No. 1 at the Concours d'Elegance on the 19th of August.

It's a very bold design, that's for sure.
We seem to be seeing more and more of the "Exposed" design theme like the Ariel Atom.

I don't get this car. Who would buy it over the cabrio version?

Nice looking but ridiculous. How about roll-over protection??
I don't believe that will go on sale as it is.
And then is the price. There are better deals, sorry Callaway.

of course there are better deals, but what this car has in spades is exclusivity and a completely different style and purpose than other similarly priced cars. I think i'd have more respect for someone that drove this car than taking the cliche option and opting for a ferrari or lamborghini

And how much do those clowns want for this joke? $305K You have got to be so stupid to pay 599GTB money for a dumbed down Corvette...

I think this model features many variations of the nostalgic LeMans visions from the early legends, the Aston Martins, the Bugattis, the Mercedes-Benz and the ferraris, its an american none the less, no doubt. I fairly enjoy the aggressive nature of this model Callaway. It is nice to at least see america's attempts at bestowing the artistic manners of supercar/design from within the land of the "Free" come on, with that much stated freedom, why not attempt something worth while. concentration is but a virtue amongst freedom.
