SAIC and Nanjing to form partnership
December 31st, 1969
Two of China’s biggest carmakers may work together on future projects if plans for a partnership go through. Nanjing and SAIC have signed a letter of intent, which basically means they’ll explore avenues to build cars together, share technologies, or even provide marketing and distribution support as long as both companies get something out of it.
A statement from Nanjing claims that a “strategic cooperation on passenger cars, commercial vehicles and independent brands, as well as automotive parts and component manufacturing” may be possible.
Since both companies got parts of the MG Rover group when it went under, a joint co-operation could also bring the two parts together again. This may also accelerate plans at Longbridge (where the MG TF is already being produced) to introduce a range of cars for UK and global consumption.
