Hummer to produce Jeep Wrangler-sized H4
December 31st, 1969
Execs at GM have given the green light for the Hummer H4, a new baby SUV similar in size to the Jeep Wrangler that’s expected to go on sale in the 2009 model year. Hummer has been experiencing strong sales outside of the US and the addition of a new smaller model will only cement that success.
Late last year it was rumored that a H4 concept car could be ready for next year’s Detroit Auto Show but sources say developers don’t have a suitable platform on which to base the new model yet, reports Automotive News.
Joining the H4 will be a new pickup version of the H3 with possibly a crew-cab variant as well, while the current H2 will go in for an upgrade next year ahead of a restyled and re-engineered model for the 2010 model year.

The point about the Wrangler that they are missing is the removable roof and the off-road capabilities. I've seen many a H2 and H3 stuck in the dirt at our local off-road park, it's owners wondering why it can't go where the H1 can.
