Preview: 2010 Mercedes-Benz E-class
December 31st, 1969
The E-class has been officially released by Mercedes-Benz. Click here for pictures and information.
Updated: Mercedes is set to release its next-generation E-class sedan by 2009, with sales to start soon after the car’s debut at the Geneva Motor Show. Remaining similar in size to the current model, the new E-class will pick up styling cues from the CLS four-door coupe as well as a new angular front end with four square shaped headlights.
The interior will hopefully continue Mercedes’ recent return to form in the quality department, and is expected to feature a mix of elements from the S and C-class models including a centrally mounted color screen as well as an in-dash unit between the speedo and tachometer.
A wagon variant will hit the market less than 12 months after the launch of the sedan and will feature a widened C-pillar and a chrome strip across its rear.
Base models will be powered by a 184hp four-cylinder turbo engine, with the range topping out with a 544hp V8 model. New to the lineup will be a direct injection petrol V6 model, a 354hp diesel V8 version and the all-new hybrid model that’s expected to arrive after 2010.

Nice headlights? Maybe
By HECTOR #2, Posted: 6/20/2007
I pray the new car doesn't continue the theme of the S, M, GL and SL class with their inane steering column mounted tiny shift lever. And for the love of god don't adopt the dash style from the S class, easily the ugliest and most embarrassing interior of any luxury car.
The lights are weird but OK. And what the hell are those things on the side mirror housings? Turn signals?

Mercedes is losing their way. I prefer Audi cars
By Gus #4, Posted: 8/2/2007
It seems Benz is trying to copy the current 5 series a little in those headlights.
Not a good idea, to copy that Bangle look. The ass of the current S-class looks so much like the 7 series.
Ugh-Lee.

GUS- isn' that the name of MBZ's current designer? Ugh Lee?
/heh.
anyway looks like designed by committee-some fir the back, some for the front.
By big L #6, Posted: 8/2/2007
It takes a little getting used to but on 2nd thought the design is ok.
By Ryanza #7, Posted: 8/2/2007
HA HA the lights look like a LEXUS!!
By MADchilis #8, Posted: 8/2/2007
The design look ok for me.
By tony #9, Posted: 8/2/2007
Wow this is the first time I can actually notice a Mercedes copying Lexus Design.

If you look closely, the headlights are straight from the new C class, just cit in half, and are doing that dual head light thing, which isnt new, they have done that for years with the current E and C class, CLK and SL class... and to whoever said it looked like a 5 series, look again closely at a C class, UP CLOSE! ive seen one locally and to me all around (except for the tail lights that do remind me of an old lexus)
But these pictures remind me of when they finally unveiled the toyota camry, and like me and a bunch of other people, thought it looked very different and weird to be honest, but in time, its like fine wine... it just gets better and better, its a different, i mean, its why i like benz for that reason, they completly take chances and change the look of their cars every 5-10 years.... wish i could say the same to bmw, their 3 series from 5 years ago looked better then the brand new 3 series now, what were they thinking? its just 15ft of car... but anyhow...
Just stair at the pictures, and i see design cues from the C class, which to me is an utterly beautiful car, its more closer relation to the C than the S class, but i bet they did that with the outside, and more design cues (as far as quality and luxary go) from the S class. So we'll wait and see
By Gus #11, Posted: 8/3/2007
"just 15ft of car" is a Jeremy Clarkson line...
I'm sure it will look ok in person, just from first glance however, it look unoriginal and off key.
And don't forget, the reason the new BMW's look softer than they used to is that with the brand new Bangle designs (which were too out there) THEY DIDN'T SELL WELL!

It looks great. I look forward to trading in my 2007 E for the new one as the timing will be perfect as my lease will be up. It looks a lot like the 2007 S class. I have seen photos of the dash and it is the same layout as the S. However, I do love my new one as it is much better in all aspects from my 2004 E which had lots of small problems.
By koko #13, Posted: 9/16/2007
well its nice but i think it should be better look ... cuz this one looks like Lexus ... copy not a choise of Mercedes Benz
By hanafiah #14, Posted: 9/26/2007
i like the one shown at worldcarfans much better than this. this one already looks dated before it is even launched due to the front similarities with the current c class. the rear is just plain and looks like a hyundai sonata. they really need to redesign the car.i hope they will abandon the design. trying something new is o.k. as long as it is not ugly.
By hanafiah #15, Posted: 9/26/2007
by the way, why must it has dual head lights. is it really necessary. is it suppose to be its identity, its 'looks'. come on. move forward already. find something new. two models is enough already.
By love mercedes #16, Posted: 2/5/2008
round head light will be perfect
By haters #17, Posted: 3/4/2008
ya`ll just hate to much i bet yall cant get the new eclass brand new when it comes out. and yet u talk so much...
By Xzan #18, Posted: 3/20/2008
It in all honesty looks nice, i like it.
Just that some people have a hard time dealing with change, something a little different from what they used to seeing.
And almost every car copies another in some form or fashion.
By LUNACRS #19, Posted: 3/26/2008
PEOPLE, MBENZ DOES NOT COPY! THEY TAKE THEIR TIME TO PRODUCE SOMETHING WORTH BUYING. UNLIKE LEXUS BMW & OTHERS. THEY COPY, HURRY, & GIVE YOU A S*** CAR.

As an European who is used to see and drive 3 makes only (sorry folks but for us other cars don't really exist) MB just followed the suicidal path of BMW - they destroyed a legend. The old E-Class was the only true MB left but not anymore. The new E looks downright ugly - front is just horrible, the taillights (I'd argue with some of you here) look like the new Lincoln models'. The only goog thing is, due to very conservative body remodel, is the body forms themeselves - they retain the elegance of the old model with little update especially in the trunck area wich gives the car very smooth and elegant shape. No doubt this is tecknically perfect machine but in terms of design Audi is light years ahead of everybody else...

80% of the people who commented about this car need to take some english class.
By Kazzuo #24, Posted: 6/8/2008
Its very difficult to determine if this is a suitable design for the new E Class. The current E class is the best design MB has ever created for the E. On the contrary the new C Class is very appealing, MB should have designed the rear like the new C Class. And yes I do agree the front looks like the new LEXUS GS. Maybe MB is losing their unique concept. Personally I feel Lexus has better design and technology, The only thing good about this luxury auto is that the body design stays continues for 7 years consecutive years, unlike BMW that evolves frequently, which make the car look older.

is this the E-class!!! what i remember is the E-class looks more sport
The front copied from Lexus GS ... looks good but better on the Lexus :) ... The rear copied again !!! a hybrid between the Lincoln sedan + Lexus L series ... the side mirrors inherited from the C-class ... who is this designer ??? Mr. Copycat Notinnovative !!!
I have always liked the E class ... this is a significant design change ... looks good but seriously, MB can do much better if put in that little extra ... and be more innovative ... pls don't look at the nicest cars on the street and build a hybrid ... think outside the box ! common MB ... u folks have the potential !!!!
I'm sure the engineering behind this new e-class will be superb, however, I'm disappointed by the design. It reminds me of a Hyundai Genesis. Slight variation in the grill, that's all. Shouldn't you get more style when you pay this much? Again, disappointed.
I actually like the car a lot but everyone has their own opinion and Mercedes Benz does not copy other car company's other car company`s usually copy them this car was made about 1-2 years ago the car is made 1-2 years before it is released and Lexus could of saw the tail lights and copied them you never know everyone thinks that the Mercedes company copied them but thats not the point just because the Lexus car was released before the E does not mean that Lexus copied them or Mercedes copied Lexus You would never know and the front lights of this car is the same as the C class but just cut in half and The tail lights dont make me think of Lexus it looks like the tail lights of A Saab, Lexus probably copied of Saab and got away with it because not a lot of people drive Saab cars, I actually love this car the new E and if i had enough money to buy it i probably would buy it.
And You guys have to think
most people who have money like to buy fast cars on luxury cars to show off thats what they do.
But Lexus cars are very fast cars. Yet Lexus is luxury too.
But Mercedes Is Luxury but there not fast like Lexus, on the other hand AMG versions of Mercedes those are fast but no one would spend that kind of money unless they are Rich why would someone buy a AMG when they can buy 2 Lexus`s People think like that and even people who would buy a Mercedes they dont want fast they want luxury. Thats why the would choose one or the other.
And Saab had the tail light design for years and Lexus copied off them But they got away with it because Saab is a rare car you rarely see them around or ever here of them Saab is not a big thing in the US.
Lexus copied Saab`s tail lights or
Mercedes did if you go look at the Saab`s design its the same tail light.
But who cares there all nice cars i dont care if they copy of each other they dont care either it a Competition and they would do anything to bring in business in this Recession.
Were in bad economy and there making the cars look nicer than ever because they want people to go and spend their money when people are holding back because this Economy is so bad unless someone who makes a huhge salary and there job is safe there the ones who are going to by a CAR in this time..
and too LUNACRS, I agree with you that Mercedes does not copy but your saying lexus copy and their cars are crap I dont agree with that on the other hand BMW is crap.
Lexus has very nice cars both Luxury and Fast.
Lexus is nice but Mercedes is much nicer.
Ser i dont agree with you Audis are not nicer than Mercedes your wrong Audi doesnt have nice luxury
Audi is more sporty than Luxury.
I Like Mercedes,Lexus,Audi.
If you go look at Acura there all ugly there old models were nice and Acura I wouldnt waste my money on them there Gross looking
Just a '92 E Class owner....going for the 200K. Comments re Lexus...sorry guys, first came the M/B THEN the Lexus. Now truthfully, who tried to 'get the look' from whom? You're right about the dashboard though. However, no matter what anyone says, I hope that M/B will keep with the classy style and CLEAN LINES. Rides not bad either!
