Official details on the Citroen C5 Airscape concept
December 31st, 1969
Citroen is set to unveil its new C5 Airscape concept car at next month’s Frankfurt Motor Show, giving a preview of the styling of the next C5 model as well as the debut of a carbon-fiber folding roof. Other styling features of the concept include its high waistline, ribbed panels, 19in alloy wheels and tapered headlights.
The highlight of the new concept is its new carbon-fiber roof, which also integrates a sunroof and a proper headliner. The roof opens up to reveal a 2+2 seater cabin with dark-brown leather and chrome detailing and Citroen’s fixed-centered steering wheel.
Under the hood is a new ‘UrbanHybrid’ drive system that includes a reversible alternator-starter and super capacitors. This system allows onboard equipment, such as the air conditioning or audio system, to be powered by energy recovered during braking and deceleration, while engine torque can be temporarily boosted when required. The set-up helps reduce CO2 emissions by 24g/km on the combined cycle and also switches off the bio-diesel compliant 208bhp 2.7L diesel V6 when the vehicle is at standstill.

It's not beautiful but Chrysler wishes the crapmobile called the Sebring looked this good, with or without a roof.

I like it.
However, the trend to keep making door sills higher (maybe for safety reasons?) makes you feel like you're sitting in a bathtub. Just the opposite of how you want an open car to feel (the extreme opposite being the Z1 roadster, I guess)...

I personally like the door handle thingys (for lack of a better word). I wonder how easy they are to use, though.
