DCX in deal with Ford to win back Daimler name

DCX in deal with Ford to win back Daimler name

December 31st, 1969 The Daimler name is actually owned by a small UK carmaker owned by Ford Premier Auto Group’s Jaguar, which sells re-badged Jaguar XJ saloons as the Super Eight. Jaguar attained the rights to the company in 1960 when it bought the UK subsidiary established by Germany’s Gottfried Daimler in 1896. DaimlerChrysler "will now be allowed to use the name alone or in combination with other words as the title of a trading company, a trade name or a corporate name," says Ford officials who spoke with Automotive News. According to the officials, the deal was put in place before DCX announced its split for an undisclosed settlement paid to Ford. The road is now paved for DCX to become simply Daimler AG, but the new name still has to be voted in by shareholders in Stuttgart on the 4th of October. Some people are upset that the new name doesn’t include any reference to ‘Carl Benz,’ one of the forefathers of the original Daimler-Benz AG, which went on to become DCX.
