Wiesmann's M5-powered GT MF 5
December 31st, 1969
One of the stranger unveilings at this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show was an oddly shaped coupe from Germany’s Wiesmann. The retro-styled coupe, dubbed the GT MF 5, packs the same 5.0L V10 engine used by BMW’s M Division for its M5 and M6 models and is based on Wiesmann’s current GT. Differentiating the MF 5 from the normal GT is the aggressive rear wing and diffuser, necessary for maintaining downforce on the rear axle at high speeds.
The chassis consists of a front-mounted mid-engine layout, with drive sent to the rear wheels via a seven-speed sequential transmission connected to a variable differential lock. The V10 develops the same 507hp and 520Nm of torque as in the BMW cars and, thanks to the lighter kerb weight of the MF 5, assures an acceleration time for the 0-100km stands of 3.9 seconds. The car also features a lowered ride-height and wider track compared to the regular GT model, but gains an additional 100kg.
Safety credentials include energy absorbing body parts, a stiff aluminum monocoque including a side-collision protection structure, and ABS combined with dynamic stability control. The market launch of the Wiesmann GT MF 5 is scheduled for the second half of next year and the final production version will also be fitted with even more carbon-fiber aero parts at the buyer’s request.
