Preview: 2009 Audi S7
December 31st, 1969
Audi is preparing a new four-door coupe positioned between its A8 limo and A6 models and, as with any new Audi, there’s invariably a performance "S" model. Aimed at the segment starter, Mercedes' svelte CLS saloon, the new A7 should arrive on the market in early 2009 and will be joined by a convertible version one year later.
Standard models will get the usual assortment of FSI and TDI six and eight cylinder engines but a new top of the line S7 is tipped to get the naturally aspirated 5.2L V10 engine from the S6. The S7 will also benefit from Audi quattro and the carmaker's new sport differential torque distribution set-up.
Depending on the success of the car, there could even be a new super-saloon in the form of a RS7 powered by the new 580hp twin-turbo engine that debuted in the new RS6.
These new renderings of the car reveal designers won’t be making any drastic changes to Audi’s current design language, with the new S7 taking many cues from the S5 and S4 models. One of the new themes set for Audi’s performance models is the clean front end, devoid of any fog lights, and it appears this will carry for the future S7 as well.

While they continue to make technologically superior cars I simply have no respect left for the German Big 3 because of their quest to provide individual model cars to every man and his dog whether they're warranted or not.
Again: just because you can do something it doesn't mean you should.

What makes you think it's not warranted? If they can build more models which uphold the same high standard you expect from them, while keeping the additional costs low, why shouldn't they? I expect most of these new crossover models from Audi, BMW & MB to be successful in their respectful niches. Or are you upset that the premium car brand you just bought is getting more ubiquitous with each model they make, therefore somehow making your choice seem less special?

this is a really appealing car. way too pricey though.

that is an attractive car
they just need to make the front end a little more coupe like
sort of like how it is on the Benz CLS
nice and curvy

* RS7? 600 HP? YES PLEASE! Where do I sign? Although shouldn't a car with 600 puppies have faster acceleration? Im not a Merc fan in general, but the AMG CLS is one vehicle which makes me weak at the knees, although its sacrilage to put an autobox in performance vehicles! Audi, if you are listening, PLEASE, please give us the option of a FULL Real Standard shift! And make it a true 5 seater. Oh, and make me first on the waiting list & Im not joking at all in the least. Thank you.

Along with the word "crossover", I think the words "4-door coupe" should be banned...
It's a "minivan" and a "sedan".

This car is hot!!!! I am an A6 owner and love the feel and technology that Audi provides. I was looking to upgrade to the A8L but after seeing the S7, I will wait for it to hit the dealerships so that I can test drive it to make my final decision. Remember folks... this ain't the Audi 4000. The Audi of today is making a real foothole in the market.
