New Citroen C5 to debut next month
December 31st, 1969
We’ve already been given a clue as to what the new C5 will look like with the unveiling of the C5 Airscape concept (pictured) at last week’s Frankfurt Motor Show, and by next month we should have all the details on the final production version of the C5. Citroen will be holding a press event for the new car on the 18th of next month but isn’t expected to officially launch it until the Brussels Motor Show in January of next year where it will be displayed alongside a new estate version.
Designed as a competitor to the Volkswagen Passat, the C5 has been tanking in sales recently due to quality issues and its aging platform, which has been on sale since 2000, reports Automotive News.
The new generation model will be built on the same platform as the luxury C6 sedan, however the jury’s out as to whether it will get the famous hydro-pneumatic suspension Citroen is famous for, or an air suspension system. The report also indicates that the C5 may get an advanced traction control system and stop-start engine technology with brake regeneration.
The Airscape concept could also preview a future convertible based on the new C5. Apparently, Citroen hasn’t given the green light yet but expect it makes sense for the company to boost sales in this highly visible – and profitable – segment.Gallery: 2007 Citroen C5 Airscape Concept

To the editors: why did you write "[...] alongside a new estate version" instead of something like "with liftback and estate body styles"? The C5 Break is just one of two available variants and should be "treated" the same way as the liftback, shouldn't it?
