Ford considers exporting cars from China

Chrysler has already signed up with Chery Auto to source a new small car from China to sell in South America and eventually the States, and now Ford is considering doing the same. Unlike Chrysler, Ford has its own production site in China and has just established a new research and engineering center facility in the country as well.

Speaking at a media event in the new R&D center, CEO Alan Mulally hinted at the possibility of exporting cars from China but said it would depend on how competitive they could be. Another problem would be ensuring the cars are made to the same standard as the rest of Ford’s global lineup, reports Automotive News.

One of the cars Mulally suggested could be sourced from China is a production version of the new Verve concept car that was recently unveiled in Frankfurt. "I can imagine making the Verve in China is a possibility," Mulally told reporters.
