December 31st, 1969 The drawn out gestation of Volkswagen’s new Tiguan SUV finally came to an end with the car making its official debut earlier this month. Its development saw several concepts come and go over the past couple of years, as well as a survey of over 350,000 people in Germany to pick its new name. We now have a video tracing back the new model’s lineage, from the original VW Buggy to the final production car that graced the stands at the recent Frankfurt Motor Show.

  1. Those headlights are horrible and the name... WTF is a Tiguan? If you have to look it up on Wikipedia the name is too obscure.

  2. With each step the concept became more staid and predictable...

    I liked the coupe version half way through - should have stopped there!
