Preview: 2009 Volkswagen Scirocco Cabrio
December 31st, 1969
Volkswagen's upcoming Scirocco is shaping up to be one of the most exciting cars to wear the VW badge in years, and now there are reports of an even hotter model being developed - a new convertible. If built, the Scirocco Cabrio would likely arrive one year after the hardtop in 2009 where it would join other convertibles from VW such as the current Eos, and the future Polo and Golf cabrios.
Sharing its underpinnings with the Eos, Volkswagen will likely adapt the regular coupe to a coupe-cabriolet version. Doing this won't prove too difficult and thankfully the car's gorgeous yet tough styling will stay fairly untouched.
The original Scirocco was never manufactured as a cabriolet but seeing the success of coupe-cabriolet cars of late, especially from makers like Mercedes and Peugeot, Volkswagen obviously believes that it is the way to go. Head over to AutoExpress to see the rendering in full.
