NSX Concept could still appear in Tokyo

Following the announcement at the start of the year that the ungainly Acura Advanced Sports Car Concept (http://www.motorauthority.com/blog/1028131_acura-advanced-sports-car-concept would come in for a redesign, most suspected the updated design would be rolled out at next week’s Tokyo Motor Show. Not so according to Honda. Since the launch of its Acura division in Japan has been delayed by two years, officials deemed it unnecessary to show a new concept at this year’s Tokyo Show.

Now the guys at WindingRoad say Honda might bring in the new concept as a last minute challenger for Nissan’s GT-R and Lexus’ LF-A concept. Nissan pulled a similar stunt when it rolled out the original GT-R Concept back at the 2001 Tokyo Show and now Honda could do the same.

There’s also the issue of fulfilling the promise made by president Takeo Fukui back in 2005 that the successor for the NSX would be on sale “within three or four years.” Now the launch of the final production version is rumored to fall around 2011.

Not much is known about the new car but it’s expected to be more of a luxury GT rather than the high-tech supercar the outgoing version was. It will be powered by a new V10 engine and should feature a 2+2 seating configuration.
