2008 Detroit Auto Show concepts and model launches announced

December 31st, 1969 Organizers for next year’s Detroit Auto Show have released information about some of the world premieres and model launches that are set to unfold at January’s show. Releases for many of the major carmakers have now been announced including new concepts and production models from the likes of Ford, Mitsubishi, Hyundai and Mazda. The Blue Oval will be unveiling a concept version of a new compact car planned for the U.S. based on its Verve Concept that starred at Frankfurt last month. The new Detroit concept will be based on the small B-segment platform, which spawns the Mazda2 and will have its own unique styling. The final design of the production version due to hit the U.S. market by 2010 has not been confirmed so officials will be gauging the public’s reaction at the show to help them decide. Kia will take the wraps off its new seven-seater SUV, which is based on the previous Mesa concept and will arrive by the middle of next year as a 2009 model. Sister brand Hyundai will use the Detroit show to debut the production version of its flagship Genesis sedan, however the car will officially go on sale on South Korea on the 29th of December this year. On Mazda’s stands will be a new concept car based on the Nagare design theme but much closer to production. Mitsubishi plans two worldwide debuts, one concept and one production car. Suzuki will bring several of its concept cars from its Tokyo Motor Show lineup and Subaru is planning a global debut for Detroit.
