Chrysler unveils HEMI-powered SR-392 Roadster

One vehicle rolled out at this year’s SEMA Auto Show that almost no one could overlook is the Chrysler SR-392 Roadster, a sinister looking hot rod developed by a specialist Mopar design team and vehicle customizer Quality Metalcraft. The SR-392 is essentially a steel reproduction of a 1927 street rod body with a 6.4L 392 HEMI crate engine from Mopar shoehorned under its hood.

The car is the creation of Chrysler’s Mark Allen and Ralph Gilles, who teamed up with Michael Chetcuti from Quality Metalcraft to build what is claimed to be the essence of Detroit. Even legendary hot rodder Chip Foose was involved in the initial stages of the project, helping to come up with a final design.

After nearly two years of planning the designers decided to go with the existing Quality Metalcraft Shadowrods XL-27 body but adopt a revised hood, hood side panels, lower rocker panels and doors.

Final touches that give the SR-392 is distinct style include high-gloss black-and-chrome exterior, full steel body, mezzanine flooring and industrial style interior.
