Nissan and Chrysler considering swapping models
December 31st, 1969
Renault-Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn has made no secret of his desires to form an alliance with one of America’s major carmakers, and now we have reports claiming Nissan and Chrysler are in preliminary discussions about a possible tie-up. According to a source close to the talks, the two carmakers could eventually supply whole cars and trucks as well as powertrains to each other.
Both Nissan and Chrysler already have similar original equipment manufacturing (OEM) deals with other carmakers, reports Automotive News. One example is the deal between Nissan and Suzuki for the supply of a new truck based on Nissan’s Frontier mid-sized pickup truck to be sold under the Suzuki label. Chrysler, meanwhile, supplies vehicles and parts to other carmakers such as Hyundai, Mitsubishi and Volkswagen.
