Mitsubishi Concept-RA official details
December 31st, 1969
One of the highlights of the Mitsubishi stable at this year’s Detroit Auto Show is the new Concept-RA eco-friendly sports coupe design study. Although the concept looks ready to roll onto showroom floors, officials assert that it was created solely as a ‘technology showcase’ but we can envisage some of the lines of the 'RA featuring on a next-gen Eclipse or something similar. One standout feature of the stunning coupe is that it packs some very real and production ready technologies.
The concept is powered by a new high-output, high-efficiency clean diesel engine mated to the carmaker’s brilliant Twin Clutch SST automated manual transmission and S-AWC vehicle dynamics control system. The driveline also gets Active Steering and Active Damper control systems as already featured in the Lancer Evolution as well as an upgraded sports braking system.
Under the hood sits a 2.2L four-cylinder turbodiesel with MIVEC valve control, piezoelectric injectors and a variable geometry turbo. Maximum output stands at 200hp (150kW) and 420Nm of torque. For compliance with Tier 2 Bin 5 emission regulations in the United States, the clean power unit also uses a new catalytic converter system.Mitsubishi Concept-RA
