IED Maserati Chicane concept headed for Geneva
December 31st, 1969
One of the more stunning concept cars set to debut at March’s Geneva Motor Show won’t be the creation of some overpaid and stuffy professional designer. Instead, it will be the work of a group of students from Italy’s famed Istituto Europeo di Design (IED). The new concept is the full-scale Maserati Chicane coupe concept, a design that draws obvious cues from the current GranTurismo but also has a unique and modern look all of its own.
This will be the fifth year in a row students from IED are showcasing a new concept at Geneva, and sponsorship for the project this year came from the likes of Pirelli, Cecomp and OZ Racing. The final concept will stretch 4,400mm in length and is designed to feature 2+2 seating capacity and a front-mounted V8 engine.
Geneva may not be the last time we see the sultry lines of the Chicane. Maserati is rumoured to be developing a new entry-level sports coupe and we wouldn’t be surprised, nor disappointed, if the new Maser looked a little something like this.
In addition to the Chicane, IED will be showcasing several scale model hybrid designs for Toyota including the new Forma, Waterfall and H.A.L.O. Hybrid Advance Line Over concepts.
