Aston Martin engineering centre to open at Nürburgring
December 31st, 1969
It looks like a new theme park isn’t the only major construction set to appear at Germany’s Nϋrburgring circuit. Aston Martin is the latest in a long string of carmakers that have either opened or are planning to open an engineering and design center at the famous race track. Just two months after opening its first ever purpose-built design studio at its Gaydon headquarters in Warwickshire, Aston Martin has confirmed it will open a new test center in Germany.
Work is underway to convert an existing building at a location at Meuspath, adjacent to the famous Nordschleife circuit, and the facility is expected to be operational by the end of May this year. Aston Martin has already made extensive use of the legendary circuit for testing and development over recent years. While being instrumental in developing aspects such as ride and handling, tires, brakes and cooling systems, all new models are also subjected to a 10,000km high speed sign-off test on the grueling circuit.
Hopefully this means there will be even more track-honed models coming from Aston Martin within the next couple of years. In addition to the Rapide sedan due next year, Aston’s engineers are also rumored to be prepping an all-new flagship to replace the now discontinued Vanquish supercar.
