BMW Performance range for 1-series coupe and cabrio
December 31st, 1969
BMW is using this year’s Geneva Motor Show to unveil a new range of performance accessories to be sold under the ‘BMW Performance’ line of factory backed modifications. The BMW Performance line was originally introduced in September last year for the 3-series and now the line is being offered on the 1-series coupe, hatchback and cabrio models. As previewed by last year’s 1-series tii concept car from the Tokyo Motor Show, the range includes upgrades to the engine, braking system, suspension and alloy wheels, as well as interior and exterior enhancements.
To deliver improvements in engine performance, owners of six-cylinder 1 and 3-series models can specify a new carbon fiber air intake system. This system offers improved air flow and additional engine air supply. Customers can also opt for a new sports exhaust system that enhances air flow from the engine to improve efficiency. A sports braking package for enhanced stopping power can also be specified. This features chunky 17in cross-drilled and vented brake discs on the front axle as well as six-piston fixed callipers, finished in a bright yellow.
Those wanting to improve the handling of their cars can add a new suspension kit, which is comprised of recalibrated shock absorbers and coil springs. It also lowers the ride height of the car by 10mm to reduce the center of gravity, thus delivering even more nimble handling. A new carbon fiber front suspension strut brace that adds torsional rigidity to the front of the car can also be selected.
To further distinguish the cars, BMW offers a unique set of 18in and 19in alloys, a full aero kit including a new front spoiler and side skirts and carbon fiber accessories including a rear spoiler and diffuser plus carbon side mirrors. The interior, meanwhile, can be dressed up with Alcantara trim, new bucket seats, a short-shift gearbox and carbon-fiber dash trim.
