Cadillac boss describes future lineup
December 31st, 1969
Cadillac’s new CTS sedan is one of the most exciting models the GM luxury division has released in years but according to General Manager Jim Taylor it’s just the start of an onslaught of new models set to revive the brand. Next up will be the new high-performance CTS-V, which is set to give cars like the BMW M5 and Mercedes E63 a run for their money. This will be followed by the Escalade Hybrid SUV, which officials are considering launching in Europe, a new CTS coupe and a range of high-end Platinum models.
In the longer term Cadillac hopes to prove itself to be a technology leader with the introduction of hybrid, flex-fuel and even fuel-cell models, Taylor revealed to Automotive News. The first of these new cleaner models will be an E85 flex-fuel version of the Escalade and eventually there could also be a fuel-cell model as well. According to Taylor, if GM green lights fuel-cell technology Cadillac will be the first brand to get it.
Other models include a new entry-level crossover based on the Provoq concept, a midsized BRX SUV, a new large sedan to replace the aging STS and DTS models and a new baby Cadillac possibly called the ATX. Officials were wary of launching a model priced less than the CTS but since the sedan has moved up in price to around $30,000 to $40,000, there’s definitely room for a new ATX model with a price tag of $25,000 to $30,000, Taylor revealed.
