Ford in the 'Toxic Ten' list of bad corporate polluters
December 31st, 1969
Ford has been named in the 'Toxic Ten' list of corporate polluters, compiled by Conde Naste's Portfolio magazine. As the list itself states, the Toxic Ten is a look at companies that may not be the worst polluters, but companies that have the resources and ability to do better at increasing their environmental friendliness.
There were several reasons given in the list for Ford's selection. One of the major reasons was that Ford had the second-worst fleetwide gas-mileage rating for the past two years according to the Environmental Protection Agency.
In addition to this, Ford also withdrew its promise to manufacture at least 250,000 hybrid vehicles within two years even though it was the first American car manufacturer to offer a Hybrid SUV. Ford was also slammed for continued production of the F-150, one of the biggest gas-guzzlers on the road and still one of Ford's biggest sellers. The manufacturer was also singled out for failing to properly clean up a 500-acre waste dump in New Jersey in 2006, after the EPA conducted a reexamination of the area after Ford's 1994 cleanup. The waste site was the first site to be re-listed as contaminated after being cleaned in the Superfund program's history.
While Ford is certainly not one of the top ten polluters outright, it is lagging behind its competitors in becoming more green and its failed promises have incensed environmentalists and consumers alike.

Probably put out less pollution than the scooters in a medium sized Chinese city.

oh christ... i cant believe this crap. i dont see the market screaming and crying about a lack of hybrid escapes. you want a failing company to produce more products than it can sell? talk about pollution. like i said before,... if your going to blame ford for being pollutive cause their best vehicle is the F150.. then you HAVE to call MACK pollutive because they make huge rigs that get really horrible mileage.
this whole pile of crap about rating the cleanliness of a brand based on their fleet average disgusts the hell out of me. if toyota were to kill off their entire brand except for the prius, the BRAND ITSELF could be blamed for higher pollution because the prius causes a lot more pollution to be produced than most other vehicles because of the batteries, the energy needed in production.. etc.
heres an idea, how about we blame mcdonalds for making people fat.
YOU'RE EATING THE F*$%&ING FOOD PEOPLE.
im sorry... i dont know where that came from.

Research base on old ford, or when the us government hadn't regulated anything in the industry yet. Old news not associated with todays or future ford.

right.. but once again.. every green hippie out there who thinks buying a prius over a focus or a cobalt is going to move even further away from domestics because of this crap.
it sickens me

Blaming MACK wouldn't be the same, they make big rigs that drive our economies, we'd be screwed without them. I realize that many people buy F150's for work trucks but I've seen just as many that have never seen dirt. Thousands of people buy pickups for no real reason.

That is true, and it bothers me as well, and I have an Expedition.
But, it is a free country, and so far it works pretty well. Imagine living in England where the noose is tightening and tightening.

skyline; thats what i'm saying. if some one wants to buy a truck, fine. but dont blame the ****ing company cause their truck is the best.
imagine the scientists of the world told us that the world was going to explode because of build-up of petroleum in the earths crust, and that we should do our best to burn as much gasoline as possible. people would praise ford and honda and toyota would become the bad guys because the only thing they know how to make decently is a small car. (read: the honda ridge line is a minivan, and the tundra has had engine problems, tranny problems, and im sure the doors are about to fall off cause of a spot weld problem).
gus: about england, remember, the family car there is a focus s-max (what you would know as the mazda 5). people with full on-frame SUVs there are living a lifestyle of extravagance, and most likely are using that SUV to the max; such as hunting and other off-roading. i maintain that these taxes that london is putting in place are only going to serve to fill the coffers of the eco-programs in london. they wont deter the regular "big car" clientel from shopping smaller. these people are already making tonnes of money,
