Saleen S5S Raptor Concept headed to New York
December 31st, 1969
Late last month we reported that Saleen was planning to expand its lineup with a host of new modified muscle cars and possibly a new mid-engined sports car. We can now confirm that a concept version of the mid-engined sports car will be appearing at the upcoming New York Auto Show and that it will be called the S5S Raptor.
The new concept car will be built around an aluminum chassis and feature plenty of carbon-fiber to help save weight. Powering the car will be a supercharged 5.0L V8 engine running on E85 ethanol, which Saleen revealed to Automotive News should be able to take it to speeds above 200mph.
As this official teaser shows, the new car will be just as aggressive as the current mid-engined S7 flagship but it will be priced much lower than the $600,000 supercar. In a previous interview, Saleen CEO Paul Wilbur the car should cost about $150,000 to $200,000 although he wasn’t willing to give a release date.
