Volkswagen has a number of new models set to be unveiled at next week’s Geneva Motor Show, namely the production Scirocco hatch (pictured above is the Iroc concept) and Golf TDI Hybrid concept, but it also plans to launch a new ‘EcoFuel’ line of cars. In total, VW will conduct seven international premieres at the upcoming show. In addition to the aforementioned vehicles, officials will unveil a 150hp Passat Estate TSI EcoFuel, essentially a Passat wagon running on natural gas, a BlueMotion Sharan, Golf Estate 4Motion and the Passat CC.
The first-generation Scirocco was initially presented to the public at Geneva 34 years ago. Now VW is set to present a new model, distinguished by an elongated roof, four-seater capacity, and a range of petrol and TDI diesel engines ranging from 122hp to 200hp in output.
With the Golf TDI Hybrid concept, VW will show off a new seven-speed DSG and diesel-hybrid powertrain that consumes no more than 3.4L of diesel per 100km (69MPG). The can run on electric power alone, or a combination of electric and diesel power. In city traffic, the vehicle’s stop-start system will automatically switch off the engine to save further fuel.
The major newcomer is the Passat Estate TSI EcoFuel. The car features a 150hp TSI engine and consumes just 5.2kg of natural gas per 100km. The Passat and the Passat Estate TSI EcoFuel are due to be launched on the market around year-end.
