Rolls Royce coupe already sold out
December 31st, 1969
The entire first year production of the new Rolls-Royce Phantom Coupe, which equates to more than 200 cars, was already allocated for long before the car made its debut at the recent Geneva Motor Show, boasts CEO Ian Robertson. And a majority of those orders, two-thirds to be in fact, were sold to completely new clientele who for many this will be their first ultra-luxury vehicle.
"Two-thirds [of the names] in our early order bank are from non Rolls-Royce owners," Robertson told reporters from Automotive News. “It means we're beginning to appeal to a broader audience." The Phantom Coupe was previewed by the 101EX concept at the Geneva Motor Show back in 2006 and the first orders started to trickle in soon after the original unveiling.
The 200-plus orders for the new Coupe means that the production run for the rest of the year, and a similar story could be told for the car’s Drophead convertible sibling, which Robertson explains is sold out until the middle of next year. Last year’s sales tally for the convertible stood at 250 units and it with sales of the hardtop coupe once again beating expectations it looks like this year’s sales tally will outpace last year’s record of 1,010 cars.
