Mercedes-Benz unveils 2009 B-Class facelift
December 31st, 1969
After just three years on the market Mercedes-Benz has revised the design and engineering of the B-Class MPV, giving it a range of more efficient engines as well as a new look. The facelift program focused on improving the car’s green credentials and includes an engine lineup that burns up to 7% less fuel than the previous generation and undercuts current EU limits by as much as 90%.
The B-Class continues to be available with a choice of six engines, two direct-injection diesel units (80 kW/109 hp and 103 kW/140 hp) delivering up to 300Nm of torque, as well as four petrol engines with a peak power output of up to 142 kW/193 hp and a maximum torque of 280Nm. The range also gets Mercedes’ new ‘ECO’ engine stop-start technology as well as a flex-fuel model that can run on either petrol or natural gas and park assist.
The lineup includes a 95hp B150, 109hp B180CDI, 140hp B200 CDI, 116hp B170 and B170 NGT (flex-fuel model), 136hp B200 and a 193hp B200 Turbo range topper.
Changes to the car’s styling include a revised front-end with a new grille design and more aggressive bumper. The facelifted range also sees the exterior mirror housings, door handles and skirt panels painted the same color as the rest of the car. At the back are a new set of taillamps, a new bumper and optional chrome detailing.
Inside, the facelifted B-Class gets new fabric trim and optional Artico faux leather for the seats.2009 Mercedes-Benz B-Class facelift

who would ever buy this over say, a focus? or a mazda 5? or the myriad other options there are in this class?

Badge snobs.

I'm not sure why they bother actually making this. I remember when everyone thought the 190-class was ridiculous... and now the C is the basic Mercedes that everyone and their mother buys!
At least that was still a respectable car... but this... an insult to the MB name. Sorry to say it, but if you can't afford a real Mercedes... buy a used one. Or buy a Toyota Corolla.

I would like to differ, I like this car. I would buy one, and I envy the Canadian who could actually drive this. Focus? Ford is not selling the hatchback version of Focus with the new model, or Fiesta for that matter. There is really no US car competing in the B segment, let alone upscale B segment. I want a upscale B segment car. Audi A3 is not as pretty as this :) Madza 5 is in another segment and Madza 3 (speed) is a boy racer.
Also, for the rest of the world, MB is just a car. There is even a smaller A class you can buy in Europe and Asia. For US, people thinks of MB as something more. Really, it is just a car.

Didn't Mercedes say that the B-class will make it's way to the USA.

MB didn´t learn very well from the Jaguar X-Type experience. An upscale producer does NOT produce lower end models. As a VW , this would be a great car, as would have the X-Type been a great Rover or MG.

The B-Class is part of the MB family and is truly a MB. I considered Mazda 3 and 5, Toyota, Subaru Impreza, Saturn Astra, and for the money the best bang for the $$$ is the M-B B-class. Driving a BMW is being a snob. You can tell by the attitude of the drivers.
