Land Rover turns 60
December 31st, 1969
When the original Land Rover Series 1 made its public debut at a motor show in Amsterdam back in 1948, few would have suspect the brand would go on to become a major player in the international luxury SUV market. Today, Land Rover features a five-model lineup and is selling vehicles at a record level.
Since the first Series I model rolled off the production line at Solihull, UK, the vehicles created by Land Rover have gone on to define the SUV market. In 1970, we saw the launch of what’s arguably Land Rover’s most significant model, the Range Rover, and today the lineup features the Defender utility, LR3, LR2 and Range Rover Sport.
Soon, we may be able to add another vehicle to that list. Land Rover’s new LRX Concept (pictured) has been gaining a lot of positive attention recent motor shows and the car is now believed to be confirmed for production.
Around the world, Land Rover will be celebrating its 60th anniversary year throughout the summer with a series of special activities and events. The first of these events will be the unveiling of a new automotive sculpture by artist Gerry Juddah at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July.
