Green Vehicles prepping two electric vehicles for U.S.
December 31st, 1969
The electric vehicles market has become one of the most watched segments as the world begins to favor fuel economy over other more speed-related aspects of a car. While start-ups such as Tesla and Fisker are already offering electric sports cars, other segments of the electric vehicle market remain wide open. A new Northern Californian company going by the name of Green Vehicles is set to enter the burgeoning market, having developed a range of new electric vehicles in secrecy.
Green Vehicles is planning on releasing two electric vehicles for the U.S. market, one of them a practical electric three-wheeler for commuting and the other an all-electric truck. The three wheeler, dubbed the Triac, will feature a 20kW electric motor and will be able to reach a top speed of 80mph. Power is channeled through a 5-speed transmission and the Triac can be charged from a regular household power outlet.
Criticism of three-wheeled electric vehicles in the past has been rife, especially in light of various state laws in the U.S. that force users to have a motorcycle license to operate them.
Green Vehicles' second product, an electric truck called the Buckshot, will also feature a 20kW motor, but this time mated to a three-speed gearbox. The company, also intends to release two NEVs (Neighbourhood Electric Vehicles, speed-limited to around 35 miles an hour and for non-freeway use), although these are still in development.
