Update: Cadillac CTS-V 7m 59s Nurburging video
December 31st, 1969
Updated with official video.
With the GT-R's recently lowered Nordschleife lap time set at 7m 29s, a drop of nine seconds from its previous 7m 38s lap, General Motors responded with speculation that the ZR-1 would handily take the production car lap record at any track in the world. While we have yet to see the General prove that claim, the latest showing from the upcoming CTS-V lends some credence to its possibility.
The 5-series sized sedan with what is essentially a detuned version of the same motor that powers the ZR-1 lapped the Nurburgring's north loop in a scant 7m 59.32s - a time that GM claims is the fastest ever recorded for a production sedan. Piloted by John Heinricy, a GM executive and racing driver, the car was outfitted precisely like the company plans to ship the first production cars later this year.
With Cadillac's build quality and workmanship in the CTS series rising to levels widely acclaimed as competitive with its German rivals, the CTS-V's performance exploits are proving that GM is serious about moving Cadillac into a globally competitive sports luxury brand.

It's the best looking fo the bunch, at least until they replace that ugly 5 series.
Looks like fun...
By beken #2, Posted: 5/9/2008
Is that including the roll cage?
This is fun watching the manufacturers one upping each other.
By Gus #3, Posted: 5/9/2008
It is good for the "sport", isn't it? :)

Lets hope it is on par with the competition because the drive line shunt and the switch like action of the clutch on the previous V Spec model was downright awful.....
Fingers crossed.
By Wizards Lore #5, Posted: 5/12/2008
ummm wasnt the GTR street spec with NO add ons...i applaud GMs attempts to try and ram Cadillac down everyones throats but it will take a long long time and a supremely amazing product to stop the rest of the world puttign the Caddy into the pideon hole of being a crap, horribly built, even worse to drive oversized american barge....

just re-read what i wrote.....man my spelling is terrible...apologies... :-(

Wow! From America and it looks good too......
Lets hope they fixed the previous cars foibles that I mentioned above.
By CK #8, Posted: 5/14/2008
But is the rest of the car beside the tires really roadspec?
By Ultra #9, Posted: 5/14/2008
"fastest SEDAN" and not only that. It seems that it can go faster with a better driver Maybe they should add a sport mode so it can retain higher rpm . If you notice hes making the turns at around 100mph .
stock tires , 4200 car weight =( . maybe we can reduce that
By Ultra #10, Posted: 5/14/2008
It kinda looks lowered. wonder if stock will be that low. The Ugly square bulges are gone and the bulges look smoother and more triangular gives the car a good look compared to b4 .
I would like to see some of those wholes thy put on the fenders and near the rear tires like the ferraries have
By Wizards Lore #11, Posted: 5/14/2008
anyone got the times posted for the Audi RS4 or the RS4 around the 'Ring, or even the M series cars from BMW ? Or some of the other hipo sedans on the market that are still considered stock spec ? I think it would dispell the thoery that this is the fastest stock sedan around the 'Ring !
By 02Chuck #12, Posted: 5/15/2008
It does not look like he is shifting the car. So does that mean it was done with an automatic? It looks like the gear shift never moved, when in the cockpit shots.
By Burke #13, Posted: 5/15/2008
I think the time could be better with a paddle shift gearbox..That would give appropriate control to the beast under the hood..

According to MotorTrend Audi A5's lap time around Nurburgring is 7:59:32...???

so that isnt even takign the S5 then ? that is a coupe though.
The RS4 and RS6 would smash the Caddy time...and dispel the theory that it is the fastest. Its a silly claim if you ask me
By justin #16, Posted: 5/25/2008
alrite y'd they make a gm executive drive this he claims hes a race driver but they also claim "quality engines", beats me but find a real driver that dosen't fix the visor in a middle of a race and dosen't decide to fix is cuffs while doin 160 down a straight
By brad #17, Posted: 5/26/2008
I dont know, but i have a feeling the m3 sedan would beat this thing, hell if the a5 has pretty much the same lap time than the m3 should clearly win.
By Edward #18, Posted: 5/26/2008
A category like this killed the Jag S Type. I do not understand why Jaguar did not develop the S into a racer like Cadillac did with CTS.

yes thats right..we are here to talk about crappy American sedans instead
By J.B. Harrell #21, Posted: 6/4/2008
Ya, the ones that happen to be faster than the European one's. Like the one in the picture above
By Wizards Lore #22, Posted: 6/5/2008
hahaha....i dont care....Give me the GT-R any day...yes the one that did it over half a minute quicker !
By J.B. Harrell #23, Posted: 6/5/2008
HA HA HA!!!! to bad that's not a sedan . . . . .
By J.B. Harrell #24, Posted: 6/5/2008
We were talking about sedans. NOT coupes
By Wizards Lore #25, Posted: 6/6/2008
im Australian so either way it doesnt bother me. But get a Lexus IS-F with the suped up V8 drop in it and bored out to the same capacity with the same mod cons i can guarantee that it would be faster that a caddy ! As it would if you dropped some weight from a HSV Clubsport
By J.B. Harrell #26, Posted: 6/6/2008
Well now we are talking about built-up, moded engines which is a totaly different subject. Of course the lexus would be faster than the caddy if had a supped up engine. that is common sence. And if we r talking about suped-up engines then, -and everybody just shut up real quick- , consider the Chevrolet 572 V8. There is absolutly NO other automaker that makes a bigger engine. The 572 is what setts apart the men from the boys. And by boys, i mean Lamborghini's, Ferrari's, Buggati's, Lexuses, etc., etc., etc. When it comes to the Chevrolet 572, V-12's and V-10's don't mean a thing
By Wizards Lore #27, Posted: 6/9/2008
572 ?? do you mean the LS3 that is currently being dropped into the Holden Commodore ?? (Australias version of the run of the mill family sedan) its a 7litre V8 yea ?
I think even the standard v8 that will be dropped into the Lexus will be faster than the caddy
By J.B. Harrell #28, Posted: 6/12/2008
OMG! just stop real quick. stop embarassing yourself. The Chevy 572 does NOT diplace 7 liters. the 7.0 liter is the 427, which is used in the Corvette Z06's . Next up is the 7.4 liter, which is a 454, then comes the 8.2 liter, which is the 502, and last comes the 9.4 liter, which is the 572. The Chevrolet LS3 isn't even a 572 cubic inch engine. It is a 6.2 liter, but in the Holden car's case, a 6.0 liter. O, and Holden is a brand owned by General Motors, u know that rite? So it's 6.0 liter is probably derived from the Corvette C6.
P.S.- Don't talk about engines if you don't know annything about them.

To put things into perspective:
7:59 - '09 CTS-V
8:05 - BMW M3 (e92) Note that this time is for a coupe on R-compound tires; Remember, the V is a larger 5-series sized car, was using it's production stock street tires for it's timed run, and still bested the M3 by over 5 seconds.
8:09 - '08 Audi RS6
8:15 - BMW M5 (e60)
8:19 - '04 CTS-V
8:22 - BMW M3 (e46)
8:25 - '00 Audi RS4
8:31 - '05 STS-V
8:40 - '08 CTS
8:50 - '00 Mercedes Benz E55 AMG (Note: Also on a shortened Nordshleife)
Notice that it not just beats those times, but destroys them by around 10 seconds each.
If the impressiveness of the V2's time has not yet sunk in, consider this: John Heinricy's almost leisurely-like stroll around the 'Ring in the V2 matches the record Porsche 911 Carrera S (an '04 997 w/ performance chassis option) time set by none other than the legendary Walter Rohrl.
