GM to present Delta family of cars at Paris Motor Show

GM’s Delta compact FWD platform, currently used in cars Opel (Saturn) Astra, Chevrolet Cobalt and Pontiac G5, is due for an update this year and the first new-generation model is set to appear at October’s Paris Motor Show. Some of the cars expected to be based on the revised platform include the next-generation Opel Astra, the Saab 9-1 and a four-door Chevrolet sedan to replace the Daewoo-sourced Lacetti and Cobalt.

The new Chevrolet sedan will be roughly the same size the Volkswagen Jetta and will go into production shortly after its world debut at the Paris Motor Show. The new sedan is being designed as a global model and will eventually be sold in Europe, North America and Asia. In North America the new model is expected to replace the current Chevrolet Cobalt.

It will be sold alongside the current Lacetti hatchback and station wagon and will eventually spawn a new five-door hatchback model as well. Other models in the pipeline include a coupe-cabrio variant, compact SUV and a possible hybrid.

GM will also use the Paris show to make an announcement about a new European version of the Volt plug-in hybrid, a new Beat minicar and European launch details for the upcoming Camaro muscle car.
