Volkswagen Scirocco GT24 debuts at Wörthersee Tour
December 31st, 1969
Following the lead of its Audi subsidiary, Volkswagen has debuted a new race-inspired concept at this week’s Wörthersee Tour tuning show in Austria. The latest concept is the new VW Scirocco GT24, a road-going version of the carmaker’s new Scirocco race car that’s set to compete in this weekend’s Nurburgring 24 hour endurance challenge.
According to VW, the new concept is a preview of a future Scirocco ‘R’ sports model and is powered by a tuned 2.0L TFSI engine with 325hp on tap. Drive is sent through the front wheels via an upgraded dual-clutch gearbox with new clutch plates, revised gear ratios and a lightened flywheel.
Like the racing Sciroccos, the new road-going concept features the same modified body shell so it stretches an additional 227mm in length over the production car and features a 61mm wider track. It also gets modified sports suspension with adjustable race dampers lowering the car up to 75mm. The wheels are 18in with 362mm (front) and 255mm (rear) brakes.
The interior is completely stripped of all luxury amenities, enabling the concept to weigh in at a scant 1,120kg (178kg less than stock). There is however a new rollcage, Recaro seats, a carbon dash, new steering wheel, electronic display and fire extinguisher.
