2010 Dodge Charger design study

2010 Dodge Charger design study

December 31st, 1969 Michael Leonhard, a self-proclaimed car stylist, has created his own take on what a future Dodge Charger may look like. While the current production Charger is far from old, there should be a replacement or refresh launching in around four of five years, and Leonhard's design study gives us an idea of what it could look like if Chrysler’s design team had unrestricted license to create the car however they wished. Leonhard, who hails from Austria, has said that the starting point for his '2010 Dodge Charger Concept' was the legendary "sound of the 1968-70 Charger." This inspired him to recreate the latest concept using the design characteristics and styling cues from the original with a touch of 21st century refreshment. Leonhard's design portfolio includes a veritable smorgasbord of his own takes on what modern cars should look like, and while some of his design themes may seem a little more fast-and-the-furious then serious car design, his latest rendition of the Charger represents a definite evolution of his work. 1. The current Charger is hideous so most anything would be an improvement. While the rendering of this proposal is attractive, it begs the question are there enough buyers for 2 coupes in Dodge's line up?

  2. I was thinking the same thing as I read the article. Dodge could do no worse with this design and call it the replacement for the Challenger when it comes up for a MMC. I doubt they would do anything this radical for the 2nd gen Challenger. That is simply not in Dodge's cards. Hopefully, for the U.S. economy, Dodge will still be around by the time the Challenger is ready for its next major update.

  3. No way they'd produce something like this; it isn't nearly ugly enough to enter production...

  4. Can anybody tell me what the mother of crap is wrong with American car design? I mean, we can put a man on the freaking moon but not design a car and barely build one?

And more to the point. If this dufus works for Dodge and he's not summarily fired that says a lot about why they're in their current situation.

  5. I like it. I like the new Challenger as well.
Who cares, really. It's just a matter of personal taste, and absolutely 100% nothing else...

  6. I love it. I saw Michael's designs before and he's a very talented artist. If Dodge built it, I would buy it. We now have a Magnum and the Charger would be a perfect replacement. I had a '71 Superbee and it was the best car I ever owned.

  7. Gus, theres a difference between personal taste and the absence of taste altogether ;)

  8. this car looks amazing
i would bye 1 anyday this car should be made into production
i say for the years to come to build an exact replica of the the 1969 charger RT n build a pretty V8 in it with the right exhaust wich will make it growl like a bear
but this car is awsome i would buy this car n put it next to my 1969 charger n that would look so beutifull
thank you for creating a wonderful car so put it in production!
    plz

  9. I personally prefer the current one. This one looks really ugly.

  10. I LOVE IT.... EXCEPT THE REAR LIGHTS! the most amazing part about the look on it is the 1970 charger grill look... it has more muscle look than the 2005-08 look... the future needs more muscle looking cars and this is a great addition right next to the challenger and camaro... i would wait to buy this and hold off on the challenger

  11. This car concept looks better than the current Charger, but only because there are parts that resemble the original. The design itself looks more like a Japanese import than an American muscle car, though. (New Camero... same thing) All you have to do is look at what's happening with the new Challenger to see what would happen if you made the new Charger look like the old one.

Sales would explode and BOTH muscle car fans and the rest of the public would be satisfied. People were expecting the new Charger to look like the old one. It didn't even come close.

There wasn't anywhere near the excitement for it as a result.

Note to Dodge... please learn the lesson from the Charger/Challenger lines.

  12. Herr Michael-Leonard...Dude!!! great design!!! Its to bad the Germans pulled out of Chrysler..but now we know why...its the economy !!! they saw it coming...but back to ur design..I had 3 Chargers back in the day..one of each year..68, 69 & 70. As for the 71 and later..burn them all!! The new four door is OK..but does NOT say Charger..ur design certainly does!!! I've been working with the guy who designed the fake ferrari for the old Miami Vice show...so give me a shout at rstoliker@snet.net
Its no wonder these car companies are losing money..instead of the Challenger..they should have made a Cuda...just look at the auctions...Cuda's bring DOUBLE the money....also its very apparent that all the Camaro designers were laid off..even before it was confirmed..I said the new camaro looked alot like a caddy....the cadillac team did design it and it shows..the muscle car flame is flickering..but I still have hope..driving an 02 T/A Ltd edition convert. now...luv the new Pontiac El Camino..but check out the Holden site..they have alot more choices over there..anyway good work..but where's the Shaker hood version with the V-10???

  13. nooo they should use this as a hearse :P
    FUUUGLYYYY

  14. I like the design, i think a major beef with the current Charger was the 4-door aspect I understand where the need for the 4-door model comes from, but i say why do we have to choose? the Stratus has 2-door and 4-door options both, so what 11th commandment says we cant have a 4-door option and a 2-door option in the same model? Other than that i love the new design, only change i would make is to the front bumper, it needs a more aggressive look, the grill though looks great and id love to see the hide-away headlights back (most people disagree but i love it, im all for a hide-away headlight return)
My biggest concern is the drivetrain, Dodge and Mopar is KNOWN for being the big power-house brutes of the big three, light precise sports cars arent their bread and butter but when it comes to a large sedan/coupe with gobs of rediculous power there's definatly no substitute, but ive been thoroughly let down by the Charger/Challenger drivetrain, its WAY too tame to be called a Mopar, now maybe if the SRT-8 drivetrain was the R/T drivetrain, maybe, but i still expect more from the Mopar crew...oh and of course, MAKE MANUAL CHARGERS! Everyone is begging for a large 2-door Charger with the most evil styling seen since the 02' Trans Am, gobs of rediculous power pushing at least a 450 horse option in the R/T package, and that amazing pistol grip shifter to throw those horses to the pavement!

  15. this car looks like crap it has horrible design this looks nothing like the 68 though 70 the car is to round you need to make the car look like the older models more people would like it thats what i would do look what chevy did they took the old design from the 67s and then put all modern stuff in it and every body liked it same with the doge challenger and the ford mustang so if you like this car ur blind it dose not look good and is a disgrace to the 68,69,70 this car blows chunks
