BMW tops quality survey, Hummer comes second

December 31st, 1969 Luxury brands have once again dominated an annual U.S. vehicle quality survey conducted by Californian research company Strategic Vision Inc. However, in a surprise result Hummer came second. The results also showed that overall quality in the industry had actually dropped for the first time in four years. Volkswagen Group, which includes the likes of Audi and Bentley, topped the results for a corporation with a total quality index score of 892 out of 1,000 possible points. GM finished second as a corporation at 867, followed by Ford and Honda, which tied for third at 862. Toyota finished fifth, at the industry average of 860, which had fallen from 864 points last year. VW, GM and Ford were the only corporations showing improvement in this year’s survey. Strategic Vision factored in information collected from 20,655 people in the U.S. who had owned a new vehicle for two to three months, and included characteristics such as reliability, dealership experience, styling, interior and exterior design and their overall perception of initial quality.

  1. hummer is a big surprise, too bad the sales for hummers are horrible that not many people will get to experience the quality

  2. I'm not so sure about that quality. I rode in an H2 the other day, and it feels just like the interior of any other GM product, ok but nothing special. BMW, Benz and Audi are still a world better, but for a world apart (relative) price, of course.
Maybe it's just a perception on my part and I don't know what I'm talking about. Hummer's are quite simple machines, just a frame truck with a solid axle. Nothing wrong with that, that's how trucks should be, uncomplicated, but they aren't anything super special aside from styling and a few off-road bits.

  3. I actually quite like Hummer, love their offroad ability and especially love it's political incorrectness of an oversized fuel drinking SUV. But what i really can't stand is all these H2/H3 Hummer with big chrome wheel, full of bling bling. It's ugly and tasteless.

  4. Surprising results. Perhaps they should have asked about dealer quality as well. I recently wrote about this on my blog

  5. The "20,000" people can't be correct, then the error rate would have been smaller. I am doubtful of these findings. Their sample sze is probably around 1000. I surely have not been happy with my BMW:

Love it. They just don’t make them like this anymore ;(
Wrote about quality on my blog just now. I’m not sure today’s customer is willing to pay for this anymore.
