Subaru to launch Impreza coupe in 2010

Subaru to launch Impreza coupe in 2010

December 31st, 1969 Subaru hasn’t sold a two door Impreza since the late 1990s but according to latest reports the AWD coupe is set for a comeback with a due date in 2010. The Impreza coupe was sold in most countries as a limited edition version of the potent STI model but it was eventually phased with the introduction of the MY01 Impreza earlier this decade. Like its predecessor, the new model is tipped to be a high-performance premium coupe designed to tackle the likes of the BMW 3-series coupe and Nissan 350Z. According to AutoExpress, the new Impreza coupe is being jointly-developed with Toyota but it's not basis of the new RWD sports car that will be sold by both carmakers. The coupe will however spawn a new version of the Toyota Celica and will be styled similar to the current Impreza sedan. Power will come from a choice of two engines, a naturally aspirated 2.0L boxer engine or a more powerful 2.5L turbo unit. Power will range from about 180hp all the way up to 300hp for the flagship STI. Base models will feature a RWD set-up but top-end versions will stick with Subaru’s symmetrical AWD system. The new coupe is set to go on sale in Japan and the U.S. in 2010 and eventually reach Europe by 2011.

  1. I find the plan of Impreza coupe and a new RWD coupe quite pointless, why not just have one platform with the option of RWD and AWD, with AWD the basis for Impreza coupe and Celica, with RWD Toyota only and form the basis for new AE86. This way they can both sell their coupe globally without internal competition. I still find a Subaru RWD coupe hard to accept, and i see it as badge engineering at it's worst, losing company's core value

  2. It’s great to hear that Subaru is putting some style back into their lineup. Hopefully they’ll have as good success with this new coupe’s redesign as they had when they redesigned the new Forester. I used to love the 22B, and thought the Prodrive built WRX racer was the best example. Hope the new coupe will have some nice curves.

  3. I'll stick with the lancer EVO.

  4. ^ no one cares about the evo here. thanks.

  5. Glad to hear this, its been too long since Subaru has had a coupe. Will be really nice to see the RWD model, but I think the 300hp awd model will be super sweet!!! Hopefully they can keep the weight down, sub 3000 would be amazing.

  6. With a 2.5L turbo engine, i really wish Subaru can go beyond just 300hp, there seems to be no Japanese gentleman's agreenment anymore of capping at 280hp with the new GT-R, so time to tup the ante Subaru!

  7. dood the subie is known to eat ur evo! it got 300 hp! and 6 speed manual! and the new one is suppose to have over 300hp !!! and i really dont think u would need that turning crap with the evo on the 1/4

  8. The only thing Im going to say is that I owned a 2000 Impreza 2.5rs 2-door coupe, so actually Subaru hasn't sold a 2door impreza since then. Weather they were talking about an STI or not, I'm not sure, but they only mentioned an Impreza.
