GM to build hydrogen fueling station in L.A.
December 31st, 1969
General Motors has confirmed it will open a hydrogen fueling station in Los Angeles together with Clean Energy Corp. in a bid to promote the benefits of the clean-burning fuel as well as GM’s progress in the field of alternative fuels and powertrains. The two companies are also open to expanding the new hydrogen infrastructure in the hope that it will build acceptance among consumers that hydrogen could one day be worthy alternative to petrol.
Clean Energy is the leading provider of natural gas products for transportation in North America and is providing its expertise at storing and delivery the fuel.
The hydrogen station will be used by drivers taking part in Chevrolet's Project Driveway, the world's largest market test of fuel cell vehicles, as well the hydrogen fuel-cell limo service being run by GM and Virgin Atlantic for its international passengers.
The Project Driveway program will see more than 100 Equinox fuel cell vehicles leased to customers around the world, with the first cars already delivered in Los Angeles, New York City and Washington D.C.

There's already a Hydrogen station near Chino, California, about 30 miles east of downtown Los Angeles. It has been there for at least 2 years...

Nicely done but lets talk about mass production.
Or how or when do we fit this in the market. After or before electric cars?.
its a great solution for planes and anything big as they need something more powerful and light. but I still think that electric will come first after all its already here.

did that station in California use more power just to make some of it, the old way.
or did it use the greener method of solar power. I like hydrogen too because it fits every energy product. electric cars were here before too in the 60s I think.

I've seen those Hydrogen Equinox's over here where I live.
Silent death traps.

Yep, there's the Hindenburg-Chaqllenger issue...
Congrats. Take water we don't have, use electricity we can't afford, to make a fuel we don't need. Way to go.
GM "leasing the Equinox cars" to owners. Just ask the EV1 owners how well that went.
Will we ever learn?
