2009 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 and Carrera 4S facelift
December 31st, 1969
Updated with new video.
Following the release of the updated 911 Carrera and Carrera S comes new details of the 2009 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 and Carrera 4S models. Launched simultaneously in both coupe and cabrio guises, the pair of AWD sport models receive the same series of styling and drivetrain upgrades announced for the regular RWD models several weeks ago.
Highlighting the 2009 model year facelift is the introduction of a seven-speed Porsche Doppel Kupplung (PDK) dual-clutch gearbox as well as direct injection technology, which boosts performance and saves fuel. Output of the 3.6L engine in the Carrera 4 is up by 20hp (15kW) to 345hp (254kW), and when equipped with the PDK fuel consumption equates to 23.3mpg (10.1L/100km).
The improvements on the 911 Carrera 4S with its 3.8L power unit are equally significant, with maximum output up by 30hp (22kW) to 385hp (283kW) and overall fuel consumption down in the case of Carrera 4S Cabriolet with PDK to 22mpg (10.7L/100 km).
In the new generation of the Carrera 4 and Carrera 4S, the electronically controlled PTM Porsche Traction Management replaces the former viscous multiple-plate clutch AWD. Styling changes consist of new lights with LED treatments, including daytime running lights, as well as slightly revised bumpers. Obviously one of the most perfect cars on the road. I like the new tail lights, kind of look like the S5.
But like I said, the style is starting to look old to me, but I wouldn't want them to change it, either... :)

The classic, beautiful, aerodynamic shape of the Porsche, never ceases to enthrall me with it's perfection and precision. Each update, makes the car just that tiny bit more beautiful. One of the finest cars ever conceived just got better. How can you not appreciate a company that strives constantly for a timeless perfection?

This is one of the most sophisticated and beautiful cars ever made. And yet they are trying to improve it!

get rid of that stupid strip of led's across the back, I thought they were heading in the right direction when they got rid of it a couple of years ago, and now they bring it back, bad decision.

I agree with gus that the tailights look good like an s5, but i also agree in getting rid of strip of leds between each tailight, I think it was the older turbo's that had them, and it didnt look good than. They should put the strip above the rear window, like on the bentley GT.

What about the Targa(s) - will this refresh rub off on those also?
The 911 Targa 4/4S were always my favorite models - I know they're the slowest of the 911's w/ the roof weighing like a small elephant but its still such an awesome little machine :)

If I had the money, though, would I buy this or something a little more exciting looking? I don't know for sure, and will probably never have that decision to make... :)
