Update: Chrysler expands $2.99 gallon fuel offer further

December 31st, 1969 Update: Chrysler today extended its $2.99 a gallon fuel promotion through the end of July following the release of sales figures for the month of June showing a steep 36% drop for combined sales of Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep over the past year. Previous reasons to extend the deal through June included increased traffic at both dealers and Web sites, however only about 5-10% of customers have taken up the new deal. Original: In its latest ‘Let's Refuel America’ campaign Chrysler LLC will be offering customers of its Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge brands fuel at a price of just $2.99 per gallon over the next three years to help spur sales. As fuel prices continue to head skywards, consumers in the U.S. have been shifting away from heavy SUVs and pickups in droves. Last month saw passenger cars overtake pickups and SUV in the sales race for the first time in decades and according to Chrysler’s own research 76% of customers cite rising fuel prices as their number one concern when purchasing a car. In response, Chrysler will offer this latest economic stimulus package. With the U.S. purchase of eligible Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge vehicles, customers will be able to receive a fuel card that immediately lowers their fuel price to $2.99 a gallon and keeps it there for three years. As part of the campaign, Chrysler will also be offering up to $3,000 cash back on some models including the Chrysler PT Cruiser, Dodge Charger (pictured), Jeep Grand Cherokee, Dodge Dakota and Dodge Ram. The following vehicles are eligible for the Let's Refuel America program: Small/Compact Car Dodge Caliber, Chrysler PT Cruiser, Chrysler PT Cruiser Convertible Mid-size Car Dodge Avenger, Chrysler Sebring, Chrysler Sebring Convertible Large Car Dodge Charger, Chrysler 300, Dodge Magnum Crossover Dodge Journey Minivan Dodge Grand Caravan, Chrysler Town and Country Compact SUV Jeep Patriot, Jeep Compass Mid-size SUV Dodge Nitro, Jeep Liberty Large SUV Jeep Grand Cherokee, Jeep Commander, Dodge Durango, Chrysler Aspen Pickup Truck Dodge Dakota, Dodge Ram, Dodge Ram HD The following vehicles are NOT eligible for the Let's Refuel America program: All SRT models, Dodge Viper, Dodge Challenger, Dodge Ram Chassis Cab, Chrysler Crossfire, Jeep Wrangler and Dodge Sprinter.

  1. Thats something new :p pretty cool, though I'm guessing they'll be regretting it 3 years down the road when gas is 6 dollars/gallon :p

  2. nice!! it the gas is bought in Canada, do they still get the discount I wonder? If so thats a huge discount..prices here are equivalent to about $4.60 a gallon. ....I am a Canadian but i might by my next vehicle in th States

  3. That's quite the hedge considering that east coast US prices are already tickling $4 per gallon. Where do I sign up?

  4. Great idea, but still not enough to entice me into buying a Chrysler product

  5. Ink, Chrylerbus will buy a hedge on the gas prices (quite likely they already have done so) that will lock in their costs. And remember that this is likely an alternative to other discounts and programs.

Too bad the only Chrysler product I'm interested in is a Wrangler.

  6. I agree, the only one I'm interested in would be the Wrangler.

But if I were in the market, 0% financing, a lifetime drivetrain warranty and this gas lock would be pretty enticing. Don't understand how they can still turn a profit at that point, but oh well...

  7. Gus; they're so far from turning a profit it isnt funny. the last estimates were that they were losing 1B every quarter. what cerberus is is a huge cash cow thats pretty liquid in their money so they can keep chrysler on life support for a fairly long time. the key here is that chrysler is undercutting everyone. even kia. they want you to get into a chrysler.. they want those sales.. to convince people that it's worth it.. and then build up the pricing after that. they give you all these incentives cause if you're Joe America who just needs a set of wheels, well.. chrysler is definitely the best deal going in new cars.

but yeah I agree, there's few chryslers that I would actually consider. The magnum was pretty bad ass when it came out.. the SRT version anyways. the SRT4 calibre will definitely smoke everything in its class and price range (but then you'd have to be seen in it). In the end, the wrangle is chryslers crown jewel. if you're going offroading.. its the car for you.

  8. yeah this should work for the short term but when people start thinking long term, everyone is in trouble. Nice short term marketing

  9. This is quiet simple, its a desperate bid to get people to buy cars/trucks/suv's that are gas guzzlers with engines are are generations behind the most modern of products from other manufacturers. It is essentially a band aid. It will not do them any good in the long run.

  10. Hello, am sir/ma,am Mr.wellson and am interested in buying for a holiday this season ...but i will love to know your how much will the car go for and model of payment to go along with the nest details....,i will love to get a read your replay Thanks.
